DiS forum nerds saying ‘socially challenged men’ without irony.

This website.

(Tool are meh to me. Never fully won over but can see the appeal. 2/5?)

there were some allegations against him a couple of years ago but i don’t think they went anywhere, not sure what became of them (though he seemed to suddenly manage to finally finish both his bands’ long overdue new albums immediately after that controversy, which at the time i presumed was to get them out before it all resurfaced)

there was something which may well have been total bullshit but a supposed insider posted a long defence of him online against the allegations by posting a detailed description of how he selects his groupies which was just proper creepy stuff. but that was just some guy on reddit so could well have been 100% made up.

anyway yeah growing up some friends always liked them but they’re not for me

i thought there was a thread on here but i can’t find it so maybe i imagined all this somehow

Fuck it, 1 - couldn’t stand their music as a teenager, and they were utterly rife among the “deadly serious music fans” who were unsubtly condescending to everyone else, so this is admittedly utterly not to do to with their music and everything to do with the “if you don’t like it you obviously aren’t intelligent enough to understand it” knobs from when I was 15.

[mutes thread]

Basically I’m @owensmaterob 5 years ago, but I’m okay with that.

Tbh nu-metal does arguably go back that far thanks to Rage and KoRn

Yeah there was discussion about this before in here I think

Lateralus remains an incredible record, still completely stands up, the rest I’ve never really had the patience for bar a handful of songs, given the 4 on the basis of that being on of my favourite albums with a point knocked off for Keenan being a creep and the rest being not as exciting/interesting

ok that is bad

IIRC they were quite publicly debunked by someone who, in the process, revealed him to be exactly as sleazy as one would expect a 90s rock star to be, but importantly very consensually. Something to do with specific backstage passes for groupies.

The whole thing was quite unpleasant but entirely consensual and still nothing on the shit that, say, David Bowie, gets an inexplicable pass for.

There definitely was at least one very serious allegation, which is still easily googleable.

Edit to say that @Owensmaterob has covered it above, but I’m not 100% sure it was that thoroughly debunked.I don’t think the victim has said anything since the initial allegation.

2 from me, and 2.00 would be about right on the leaderboard - better than the Libertines but they’re no Kings of Leon.

Good to run to. 4/5

Only half the board give David Bowie a pass really though, plenty of people mention it. If you have a problematic fave as an adult it’s best to accept and reflect on it.
