Brilliant band. Remember reading a five star review of summerteeth and buying it blind. Took me ages to get into it but when it clicked I was hooked. Yhf was an amazing follow up and a ghost is born had some unbelievable songs too. Brilliant live. Plus the mermaid avenue stuff is lovely too. Seem like a cracking bunch of lads too.

Since agib they’ve been a bit patchy but star wars is a great late career album. Tweedy solo stuff is decent too.

Easy 5.

Think it’s a high 3 from me.

I got into Glastobury 97 last minute as my dad let me take his place on the shop/stall his mate was working so I could see Radiohead. His mate Phil drove me up there which was okay actually even though we didn’t really know each other and aside from Phil being very leftist we didn’t have huge amounts in common.

Anyway, he’d just got a copy of Being There on tape which he played all the way through during the journey and I remember liking it but not enough to spend my small amounts of student money on.

Years later I recall stuff about how annoyingly long their soundchecks were at ATP and this set me against them as when you play toilet circuit the last thing you need is one of those bands who have fucking masses of stuff to soundcheck and get on and off stage so you know it’ll all be running late/stressy…

Anyway, around this time I discovered Numbers Stations and the Conet Project which I really enjoyed listening to when I was working and needed odd background music/noise. I remember @guntrip mentioning they were connected with the YHF album so I listened to it and I enjoyed it. It’s still their only other album I’ve heard and the only one I really know.

The one time we went to End of the Road festival they were playing and the gig was really good. I enjoyed it start to finish.

That run of being there to a ghost is born is so, so good. Incredible live band. Have a 5 I reckon, despite not adoring much since

Kicking television is an all timer live album as well. Think it’s better than any of the studio albums

I got tickets to a local festival this summer, largely on the basis that they were headlining the Saturday night. Given COVID they’ve had to pull out. We’re now getting Jake Bugg instead. Jake Bugg.

It’s a 4 for Wilco. When they’re good, they’re great. Some of their more recent material has been a bit MOR though.

Any band that made both Summerteeth and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot would get a 5 irrespective of the rest of their oeuvre, but they’ve recorded plenty of other excellent songs too (if not excellent albums as a whole).

YHF is one of my all time top 10 albums.

Only War On War and Heavy Metal Drummer are listed in the singles discography from YHF.

Nice edit. Very lenient!

They’re too dull to be worth the very.
I accidently voted for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot which is annoying as it’s the most overrated album of all time this side of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

Hum… maybe I should undo that edit

YHF is the only album I ever really go back to but what a fucking album it is so its a high 4 for me.

I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco is one of the best music docs, too.

Got a YHF vinyl potentially arriving today. If it does I’ll probably listen to it

Solid gold all time 5. Being There to A Ghost is Born is a ridiculous run of 10/10 records. Really hard to pick a favourite, though right now Summerteeth jus pips it for me. Shame the singles cover hardly any of their very best songs, but I guess that shows the strength in depth of their back catalogue. They’ve never quite got back to the highs of the early '00s, but they’ve never put out a dud album and they’ve all got their high points. Reckon The Whole Love in particular is bit underrated. And so good live. Love the way Nels Cline absolutely rips that massive guitar line that comes in on Via Chicago, like a fucking buzzsaw putting a hole in the sky.
