I think there’s just not that much left new to be said about it. Hence all the “Perfect, 10/10” comments. The debate feels more or less wrapped up on this one, and every one of its 40 minutes have been dissected, but that doesn’t detract from the quality of the record.

Reckon the hooks could be a bit more varied tbh. Reckon that’s the record’s biggest flaw. Too many repetitive mantra hooks. Nit-picking though

Well if that’s the case let’s have a discussion about which alcoholic drink we prefer: ‘mow-et’ or Hennessey?

Turns out this was bullshit as it and Illmatic were both on a 20ish album comp with notes my mate gave me 10-odd years back. I guess I just lost track

Still, a great excuse to revisit! :sunglasses:

I still haven’t listened to Mobb Deep BUT Prodigy’s Return Of The Mac is so good and ‘Mac 10 Handle’ is one of my favourite rap tracks ever. Theo should give that a try too.

I highly recommend the “sequel” (of sorts) with Alchemist, Albert Einstein too!

This is it. Been done to death. Articles, podcasts, 10, 15, 20 year anniversary reissues, even a bloody film. I think everyone has run out of takes.

Yeah, love that album. There wasn’t a lot of hip hop that I was really loving in 2007, but that album… I actually feel it was the precursor to things like Marcberg, which in turn started it’s own wave…

Actually an Alchemist produced Nas album is one of the few things that could get me excited for new stuff from him. He has such a knack for producing full lengths and bringing out the best in vets while keeping the beats fresh.

Would’ve been a much more sensible choice than Hit Boi, but y’know, Nas…

imagining him turning down all alchemist beats like “no this is too good. I want all of your worst ones please”

i think i reach for it was written more than illmatic now…

not that i like it better but the songs on it arent quite as locked into my psyche so im still discovering a bit from it. i gave you power through affirmative action is a really great run of tracks. i think currently my fav nas song is take it in blood.

the drop off from it was written to i am was reallllly extreme. and the drop from i am to nastradamus was even more extreme lol.

Yeah, that’s a great shout! Him or maybe… Muggs? I get the impression that he’s reluctant to work with who he perceives to be veteran producers, though. Regardless of how fresh they still sound.

Did you get the leaked version of I Am? It was pre me having home internet access, but seemed like a big deal at the time.

Well I guess if we get the standards out early doors there’s more time for interesting ones later
