I highly recommend the “sequel” (of sorts) with Alchemist, Albert Einstein too!

This is it. Been done to death. Articles, podcasts, 10, 15, 20 year anniversary reissues, even a bloody film. I think everyone has run out of takes.

Yeah, love that album. There wasn’t a lot of hip hop that I was really loving in 2007, but that album… I actually feel it was the precursor to things like Marcberg, which in turn started it’s own wave…

Actually an Alchemist produced Nas album is one of the few things that could get me excited for new stuff from him. He has such a knack for producing full lengths and bringing out the best in vets while keeping the beats fresh.

Would’ve been a much more sensible choice than Hit Boi, but y’know, Nas…

imagining him turning down all alchemist beats like “no this is too good. I want all of your worst ones please”

i think i reach for it was written more than illmatic now…

not that i like it better but the songs on it arent quite as locked into my psyche so im still discovering a bit from it. i gave you power through affirmative action is a really great run of tracks. i think currently my fav nas song is take it in blood.

the drop off from it was written to i am was reallllly extreme. and the drop from i am to nastradamus was even more extreme lol.

Yeah, that’s a great shout! Him or maybe… Muggs? I get the impression that he’s reluctant to work with who he perceives to be veteran producers, though. Regardless of how fresh they still sound.

Did you get the leaked version of I Am? It was pre me having home internet access, but seemed like a big deal at the time.

8.7 is tasty!

One hour until we find out what we’re doing next time.

Well I guess if we get the standards out early doors there’s more time for interesting ones later

Discovered this earlier. Some of it is pretty great – the orchestration on Memory Lane in particular

Watched Time Is Illmatic today. Generally enjoyable but it’s a lot more about Nas’ early life then about the creation of the album, which was a little disappointing.

the bit where he’s looking at the group shot from the album inlay and is pointing out like “he’s dead, this one’s in jail”
