Love Steve Reich at the end. Fantastic

  1. Absolutely no question at all.

After getting super hyper-emotional about Grandaddy in the Sophtware Slump thread last week, I reckon I can outdo myself here with significantly less effort just by telling you that the result of me hearing this album means that there is now a 7 year old boy knocking about in Liverpool named Ephraim.

Son, in case it wasn’t obvious

Fun fact, my wife chose the spelling of the name because spelling it ā€˜Efrim’ ā€œlooked a bit commonā€.

While I don’t exactly agree with this* I think ā€˜sometimes less is just less’ is very good burn.

*Mainly I think it’s fine to be ā€˜boring’ sometimes. I don’t listen to Godspeed and think, ā€œwow that’s so interestingā€, it’s about generating a mood that syncs into my desire to be ā€˜uninteresting’ or I guess ā€˜unenergetic’. It’s good music to read or code to. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Atmosphere is important. Most of my favourite films would be less so without their soundtracks but the point of that music is to enhance not to distract.

Do you know the Slow Riot one?

Personally I prefer it to F#…

BBF3 is my favourite Godspeed track, so that holds a pretty special place for me.

this is the set from when I saw them in Vancouver 2011, it was my first time proper overseas and the stars aligned so this gig happened to be on when I was in town. Was bummed my teenagehood heroes Propagandhi were playing a week after I’d left but you can’t have everything.

I was absolutely sunk in my chair for the entire thing

Envious of this reunion homecoming setlist, although it must have gone on for 3 hours!

I’d forgotten all about that cover CD - mental to think of how much it might have shaped my music tastes, I became a massive fan of about 3/4 of the bands on there.

Got this at their Dublin show in 2010.

And this was the set in Brussels a few weeks later.

Hard to say which was better. The Dublin show felt like it was three hours long, was beat by the end of it.

awesome. A setlist of the 2002 gig I was at (in Colchester) has never come out, but I remember it being about 2.5 hrs long. They came on after 10 and didn’t finish until nearly 1. Got a bollocking as it was a school night. A colleague of my uncle was a GYBE fan and drove me and a mate to it, we all got quite stoned.

listening for the first time while wfhing from home

my gosh this bit of ā€˜Static’ is incredible
