annoyingly the best godspeed gig I went to isn’t on setlist.fm, so dilapidated old community centre on the outskirts of munich april 2002, no doors just thick sheets of plastic. know they were good as a friend of mine who couldn’t be less into that kind of music ended up buying all their albums of the back of it. never enjoyed them live since

That setlist  I was at that gig, and it was incredible (sorry). All three were next level. I thought godspeed were great before but this show cemented them into favourite band territory for a good while. Back hurt by the end though. I think i saw them at Planet K again also. Good venue.

Remember being totally blown away by jonsi’s voice live during sigur ros also.

The atp one in 2002 was good also but me being in the festival spirit (i.e. i was smashed) it did go on a bit.

Went to this one in 2015 to see if they still had it as the new stuff hadn’t properly clicked and i thought they were outstanding once again to be honest. very enjoyable. Was sat down also so that was nice!

edit: great pics

It always annoyed me that I couldn’t get into these and specifically this album (which got amazing reviews when it was released) as I’m quite into some post-rocky stuff.

It just seemed a bit…much i suppose.

Might give it another go today.

Surprised the obvious football/GYBE crossover hasn’t been posted yet…Gawd bless David Squires…

The first one of these albums I’ve voted 10 for - it’s a phenomenal statement.

Have only seen Godspeed post-reunion, so the only movement I’ve seen live from this record is Gathering Storm. First time I saw them was at this show:

Went with 4 mates, none of whom lasted beyond the middle of Mladic, including the friend whose idea going to the gig was in the first place! Was far happier than I probably should admit to be left in peace and take it all in. BBF3 was revelatory having somehow never heard it before.

10 for me. Saw them in Manchester back in 2001 when I was obsessed with them. And in Gateshead in 2015, where the fire alarm went off just as they started to play ā€œMoyaā€, and then they didn’t re-start it when we all made it back in…

Some of Swans ā€œSoundtracks For The Blindā€ hits the same spot as GYBE for me (think it was a massive influence on slow kanada at least)

I can’t imagine them in the Liquid Rooms … was it not just completely defending? Mogwai were bad enough as it was!

Also the stage must have been a tight squeeze

This was the first time I saw them, when they came up to Newcastle. They were fine, but the crowd were really, really weird.

No, I was dubious before the gig but the sound was absolutely amazing - loud but not deafening, and crystal clear. I think they tailored it to the venue really well. Did look a bit cramped on stage though

In contrast, the 2007 Mogwai gig I saw there was pretty poor. Sound wasn’t great, pretty pedestrian setlist IIRC - definitely my worst Mogwai experience. A mate actually left 3 songs in…

What?? Hard disagree, that was actually only my second gig ever and I loved everything about it. And some mate

Oh wow! It was my 3rd Mogwai gig and maybe I’d been spoiled by the tiny pre-Mr Beast 2005 charity show in Cabaret Voltaire, then the devastating 2006 show at the Usher Hall. The Liquid Rooms gig felt pretty inconsequential in comparison, but that’s probably on me rather than the band.

It was also Happy Songs heavy, which was/is? my favourite Mogwai album, so that could play into it.

But cmon, R U Still In 2 It with Aidan? Main set closing with 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong? Can’t feel too bad about that!

But yeah, as with my Godspeed comment, Mogwai at Cab Vol would have been something else … must have felt like nuclear warfare taking place inside the bunker

Whispers not much of a AM/Arab Strap fan :grimacing: plus I don’t like Superheroes of BMX much so the gig started slowly for me. 2RM1R was great, but they played that at the Usher Hall too and it just wasn’t as good 2nd time round.

And yeah, the Cab Vol gig was insane. Glasgow Megasnake was like getting hit by a freight train & My Father My King at the end was indeed nuclear warfare

Skinny Fists is also a 10 for me. Saw them on the reunion tour at The Troxy and was blown away (though wished we’d had seats):

Caught them again a few years later and got Asunder in full and it was decent though don’t remember being as wow’d.
