Used to like a lot, probably havent listened to it in 5 years at least… Maybe I will… Right here, right now

On the contrary, the run from Sometimes through to Soon is where it peaks for me. The one mild criticism I’d have (it’s not even really a criticism I guess) is that Soon feels a small bit anti-climactic - a bit like a single that’s been retrospectively inserted at the end. (An amazing song individually though)

Since the invention of the album, there have only been five albums that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one didn’t rate.

Yeah I just meant by leaving it off you make it look like I was serious!

Agree with this and that’s why it’s not a 10 for me.

It sure is a 9 though.

I think there’s about 5 albums I’d give a 10.

Which albums would you consider to be 10/10

I totally don’t get this reference

There’s a film called The Princess Bride.

You should watch it, it’s good. Probably on Netflix.

Imagine pretending it’s less than at least an 8

Gave it a 10 obviously to counter all the low scores

The notion that a 10/10 album must be both perfect and a rarity is pretty self-defeating. There’s no such thing as perfect (though we strive for it no matter what), and indeed flaws make things more interesting and loveable. Loveless is literally an album meticulously designed to sound flawed.

I can think of at least 50 10/10 albums, and Loveless is very much one of them.

10/10 for me. It took more than a decade for me to truly get Loveless, but when it sunk in :open_mouth:

I don’t think 10/10 ratings should be handed out willy-nilly and they should be reserved for only truly special albums, but I don’t agree that there’s only a handful in existence. Like @yvash said, I’d guess there’s easily 50 or more albums in my collection I’d rate 10/10, which for sake of argument is about 1.5% of the music I own. Sounds about right to me, especially considering that music collections are biased towards stuff an individual particularly enjoys, rather than a fair selection of all albums across all genres…

I find the production of this album completely off putting and grating. 6/10

idk actually, would need to think about it. Kind of Blue by Miles, definitely. Velvet Underground and Nico.

I’d say there are many albums I love or that mean a lot to me.

For an album to be 10/10 it does need to be perfect. No slack, nothing gives, you’d change nothing about it. A 10/10 is a life changing album, and that is rare.

I have definitely less than 10 albums that fit this criteria.

It’s still decent, though I think seeing them live kind of spoilt it. Made it seem kind of tame? Wouldn’t say the same about the EPs or album 1 but I’m not sure why.

Baffling that they left this off

Still hasn’t quite clicked for me - I like it a lot, but it has never done for me what it seems to do for so many others. I probably like more acts that have been influenced by mbv than I like mbv. Still a strong 8/10. Will give it (yet) another spin and see if it happens - Low clicked with me last week after 6-7 years of “not-quite”, so it can definitely happen…

I got into MBV late, probably a similar confusion with other Valentine bands. I was already a fan of stuff like the Boo Radleys and other bands with shoegaze elements, the first time I heard Loveless it hit me like a sledgehammer. Like this was all the wall of noise + beautiful melody I craved condensed into its perfect form. 10 out of 10, very little comes close and it seems to have aged very well compared to contemporaries too.
