I found out last week that LD Beghtol died in December so itâs a special edition HGIIR next week. For those who know who he is Iâm sure you can guess which album itâs going to be, for those who donât a quick internet search will probably reveal the answer
Took me a while to appreciate it, but itâs a 10/10 isnât it. Not a single wasted note. Always Crashing is stupidly good - I love how dejected he sounds.
Think if Iâd borrowed a bunch of Bowie albums from the library when I was 14/15 instead of loads of 60s stuff I would have been into him. I think his stuff is better than most of what I listened to whilst still being essentially the same template.
As it was though I didnât and only listened later at which point I just found it all a bit pedestrian. The Berlin trilogy were always most disappointing because I could never square the description of radical musical innovation with what I heard.
An easy 10. I love it to pieces. Blackstar is my favourite Bowie album because itâs when he really clicked for me as an artist past the main singles. But this is every bit as treasured.
Could pick any of half a dozen tracks as my favourite but today Iâll go with âAlways CrashingâŠâ love Ricky Gardinerâs meandering solo at the end.
