I started giving it a listen. I got about 15 tracks in I think (maybe farther) but I’m unsure if there’s anyway to digest something that big.

The only triple album I recall really listening to before is that Kamasi Washington one and I loved that but it’s a slower, less frantic sort of thing.

First time I’ve listened to Low all the way through in probably 8 or 9 years. It’s just excellent really

I don’t want to hijack this thread with too much 69 Love Songs talk so this is the last I’ll say on it until next week. Here is a 15 track sampler. Not necessarily my favourite songs but it’ll give you an idea of what the album is all about and whether you’ll want to investigate further

The longer album version of Heroes packs way more of a punch than the single too. Still one of my favourite Bowie songs despite how omnipresent it is.

My only problem is that I get pretty emotional listening to it because it’s a song that will almost certainly be commemorative of my parents

My mum can’t stand his voice so I never heard his stuff at home at all

ah see I grew up with Bowie, he is pretty much the guy my parents’ relationship is largely centred around as both being big music fans but with some limited crossover. If you drew a Venn diagram of their music tastes, Bowie would be dead centre.

As a result, Bowie’s death remains the only one that has really shaken me, not so much for him cuz, while dying two days after releasing arguably one of his greatest albums was tragic, he certainly lived a full life, but more because it was a stark reminder of my parents’ mortality.

I see what you mean about Heroes following the same pattern btw although it doesn’t seem as pronounced. If I play ‘side 2’ it starts and ends with a song, but yeah it’s definitely got a change of style going on in there.

Well I was imagining it would hit a lot higher, TBH.

You could say that the score was a little… Low :sunglasses:

8.36 for Low. Not quite enough for a top 10 spot

@bornin69x could you choose a track that isn’t Sound And Vision please?

If you want another vocal track then Be My Wife. To reflect the album better it would probably make more sense to have one of the instrumentals, in which case Warszawa.

I don’t want anything @bornin69x, this is completely your choice!

Warszawa then.

Thanks!

Assumed this would be top 5 at the very least.

another one I totally forgot to vote on

will be interested to read back through the thread for some of the history/context, as what little I do know about that Berlin period comes through Iggy’s albums

listened to Low a good 5-6 times last week so it was clearly doing something for me. Not much jumped out though, and given how I’ve scored other albums I think I’d have gone for a 7 here

My favourite Bowie album and era. ‘Warszawa’ is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard and I want it played at my funeral, coincidentally with Eno’s ‘An Ending (Ascent)’.

An Ending (Ascent) is just lovely.
