For me it’s the best thrash album ever and probably the best metal album too. Hadnt given it much attention for years but in the last few months I’ve been playing it almost constantly. Every song is pretty much perfect - I know it’s not objectively the best one but I’ve gone for Disposable Heroes. It doesn’t seem to get much love but I think it’s brilliant, and has one of the best most memorable intros ever.
Huge album that I loved as a kid. I know this thread is about the album, but here’s a live version of Master of Puppets the song (with some To Live is To Die introducing it) as I think it highlights both the melodic ability and the sheer energy and ferocity of the band’s music at this point in their career.
…and also here’s something carried over from one of the latest tangents on the HGATR Iron Maiden thread:
I only dug it out again after all the debates on here! I was big into Metallica and Anthrax at the time (and Nuclear Assault and Sacred Reich and other brilliant bands, errrm…) but never listened to Reign In Bloodbecause of all the Satanic silliness - I rectified that after “that” thread and it IS incredible (better than Among The Living, sorry boys).
I will be interested to see if I get converted. The Black Album is the only Metallica album I’ve spent any time with. I liked the 4 or 5 good pop tracks.
This is a style of music I think it’s safe to say isn’t for me, and I thought this was laughably poor on the one occasion I listened to it. It’s not as bad as Slayer but that’s probably the only thing going for it.
(@UncleRetrospective keeps coming out all guns firing with bad opinions and low scores for stuff I really like in HGATR threads, so the above post is in the interest of ensuring balance… )
