The Louisville family tree image is probably the best way to answer this!

There’s also Rodan, June of 44, The Sonora Pine, Rachel’s too. Really fascinating little punk scene that, despite being I guess fairly tight-knit, spawned some really stylistically diverse and influential music

Amazing album but like others here, it took a long time to get into. Being called post rock I was expecting something like Mogwai and it’s really nothing like that.
It only clicked with me after I decided to go see them live at the reformation gig in Vicar St a very long time ago. Live, it was just magic.

It was only seeing them at ATP I realised how much dEUS stole their sound from the Washer.

It’s an amazing album, “I MISS YOU!” is one of the best bits in music.

Don Aman and For Dinner are a bit boring. The other 4 tracks are very good. 4/6 = 66.67%, rounded up means it’s a 7/10.

Therefore I have voted 8/10.

Aye two best tracks. As its RSD it’ll cost more than just buying the actual LP tho :joy:

Didn’t realise this. Missed a couple of screenings of it here in pubs cos I didn’t feel like going on my own, then felt bad when I heard the second one (in my local) was nearly empty

amazing documentary. absolutely mad how young they were when they made spiderland. I think they were 20ish, which is just absolutely nuts.

Love it. Not really a fan of post-rock (on record anyway, great in a live setting) but this has something totally absorbing and magical about it.

Had this on yesterday as it happens. Absolutely love it from start to finish. Such a fascinating record, lots of quirky little moments, really dense and creepy and perfectly executed. The documentary made it clear how tight they were musically as a band, also how much everything feeds into the record - the minimalist packaging and artwork included. Such a grower, I think I got into it based on them being an early example of post-rock but thought little of it. Something keeps you coming back though. It never grows old.

It’s not my fault you don’t have ears mate.

The best song is in the middle!!!

Aww yis, well in the mood to blast Spiderland real loud.

Breadcrumb Trail/Nosferatu Man is an amazing 1-2. So exciting and atmospheric. The build-up and final few mins of Washer are insaaaane, but it suffers from the surrounding tracks dragging it down a little. Finishes with a bang tho, fucking haunting last 90s or so.

a ridiculously good album cover as well eh. can’t think of many that fit the music so perfectly.

going 9

Yeah this album is stunning, changed my mind on a lot of music (I would have been getting into things like this and Godspeed around the same time) and ‘Washer’ is one of the greatest songs of all time and basically launched the career of Mogwai (genuinely amazed to see it struggling in the poll)

Released in 1991, around the same time as Nevermind and Loveless and while no where near the relative mainstream importance of those two, it’s just as influential on the music of the 90s and 00s to follow.

6 tracks, 40ish minutes (a very easy listen, basically)
