Don’t think it’s an age thing. I’m 33 and found them in my early 20s. Absolutely incredible band.

like you can gain a rough perception based on how often they are talked about, and by bands you like, big star have a bit of a cult hidden gem status in my perception, which if they were the best power pop of all time wouldnt be the case

Obviously ‘best power pop band of all time’ is pretty subjective (I certainly think they are though), but I’m guessing that if you Googled ‘best power pop albums’ or something, most of the lists that the search threw up would have a Big Star record (or two) somewhere near the top.

None of this stuff really matters though. If you like power pop, I can’t really work out why you wouldn’t want to give them a go. Seems deliberately contrary to me

I just normally let bands find me, once they have cropped up a few times from separate trusted sources I will check them out, so far they haven’t crossed that threshold, but maybe now they have
