Yeah after Owen broke Austin’s neck I think? There’s one in a Punk Cena match on raw in like 2012 which everyone lost their shit over

just seemed deeply uncool to me

wcw always seemed like the rubbish also-ran wrestling thing, their wrestlers seemed cheesier and all the videogames were worse

Whilst I mostly agree with this WCW vs NWO World Tour (or whatever it was called) on the N64 was the start of the excellent N64 wrestling games.

didn’t have an N64 but really enjoyed the first few smackdown games on PS1

Up there for me as the best wrestling games I’ve played. Although Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain was also very good.

decided to downgrade to a 4, While he was amazing between 89-93 (like Steiner) he never really fully re-captured that magic once Hogan turns up and stinks out WCW in '94. Sure, Crow Sting is one of the best gimmicks and looks of all time, and the build to that Hogan match is one of the best ever, but then the match itself happens. It’s not really Sting’s fault, but he didn’t actually have that many great matches on the look and gimmick he carried for the rest of his career.

It was objectively shit but I have such fond memories of Backstage Assault , plsying that as a kid on Xmas day

Remember Mayhem having a stacked roster too, can’t remember anything of the game though

didn’t it have quite fun loading/select screens?

relatedly, really enjoyed this crawlthrough all the major wrestling video game franchises by Matt McMuscles

I’m not sure, I remember the entrances just being the video for a bit and the wrestler turning up to pose before you were then in a bathroom vs Vampiro or something

Even if I did have to buy a WWF Attitude move guide cause it took like 15 butttonw to do a snapmare

yeah that game was so goddamn techy!

yeah this.

Crow Sting was a very mark-y character. that’s why he was the first wrestler I loved as a kid - not that I didn’t know it wasn’t real, just that the earnest moodiness really caught my imagination.

wouldn’t have made much sense in the Ruthless Aggression era.

I suppose they could have changed his character, though? leaned into the gritty baseball bat angle of the vigilante thing? idk
