I think for all his dickishness, not being a good wrestler is a tough one to hang on him.

He was the guy who broke indie wrestling to the masses, for better or worse. Paved the way for Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, the Elite to even make it on mainstream TV not just because of his smaller look but the way he wrestled. Absolute fire on the mic too which is what most people regard him for.

He’s a 5. And what’s more for all his dickishness he’s probably a better person than Austin or Bret or 99% of the generation that came beforehand.

The matches he had with Samoa Joe in ROH are probably his best though. New Japan meets American styles, trailblazing in that regard.

think he’s got that cena thing where he’s not a natural athlete so a lot of what he does looks kinda sloppy and shit (that roundhouse kick he does, any dive, the elbow etc) but he’s such a good storyteller that it doesn’t really matter

Love how it got to a point where most of what he did was Bret or Savage tributes literally just to piss Vince off

Also something to be said for his cultural impact, he was the last guy to break into mainstream news who wasn’t the rock or Austin. The worked shoot pipebomb was probably the best moment WWE had in the last ten years in terms of garnering interest, and his podcast when he left did the same.
Don’t want to sound too cheerleadery now but since a lot of people seem to be ragging on him personally I’d say his marriage to AJ Lee always seems very genuine and sweet too

The atmosphere at MITB 2011’s absolutely incredible, don’t think they’ve come close to anything like it since.

he’s deffo a prick though. so many stories of him falling out with people for no good reason. the fallout with colt in particular is very sad

Didn’t he try and sue him and then colt ended up winning or something

As someone who’s hard of hearing it particularly grates

Punk entirely operated in a time when I was totally out of tune with wrestling but he really got my smark mates excited, fair play to him

Colt sued him, he countersued, both cases got dismissed (judge basically told them both to stop fucking around)

For me, he was a bit of trailblazer and built something genuinely exciting around himself around 2011. However, his offense always looked rubbish to me and I wouldn’t really look forward to his matches unless there was a string story line attached. Overall felt like he was lacking some presence and largely felt like a second tier guy.

^this

but then also

I don’t have much experience with Punk. Never seen his 5* match with Cena or much of the ‘Summer of Punk’ however I did see bits of the Straight Edge Society and loved it.

Smee with the PIPEBOMB

yeah he’s generally good on social issues like that, just a prick on an interpersonal level. basically a bit paranoid and any slights, real or imagined, become absolute dealbreakers to him. you can see how he came to be that way if you know about his childhood etc but still
