And now:

Good stuff - every single ‘Libertarian’ I’ve enountered falls into the non-legit side. Not sure I ever heard the term until a few years ago when they started springing up.

Aye. You won’t find many people who self describe as libertarians because it’s a very broad term - it can be applied to either or both of the economic and social spectrums and mixed with other ideologies to varying effect and so different terms tend to be used to explain where they lie on those spectrums.

The Orange book strand of the Lib Dems (Clegg, Laws et all) and Farage could both be described quite rightly as libertarians, but they have very different ideas about what their ideal society looks like.

Any libertarian who isn’t literally a self sufficient trapper posting from a cabin in the woods is talking out of their hole, oblivious to the reality all of the privilege and strength they see in themselves is a result of well developed cooperative society and a vast social structure. Pointless empty egoism.

You’ll love this. An Orange Book Lib Dem I know from university’s started calling himself a “pragmatist” rather than a “liberal” because he felt “liberal” was too wooly and ill defined these days.
