Genuinely think Fraiser was a smarter, more subtle take on the typical 90s American sitcom than the other usual suspects. And the presence of a straight man in Martin makes it more bearable than Friends – in both, the lead characters are awful, but you’re meant to unquestionably root for the moronic Friends, while Martin constantly points out what obnoxious, pretentious arseholes Frasier and Niles are. The writers are great at farce and there’s a fair few examples of it building up to proper giggle fits. It’s also just a slightly more interesting dynamic than your typical 2.4 children family or sexy young group of friends.
Whenever I’ve caught it on breakfast TV it’s held up very well too. Parts of it do veer into typical 90s sitcoms fluff but it’s still worth a strong 4/5. The best of those sitcoms bar Seinfeld?
Think I was too young for Cheers. Bored the pants off me as a kid and never went back to it. Haven’t heard enough positive things in terms of how it’s held up to give it a watch.
