Proper 5/5 comedy.

It is my first ever television obsession. I own the scripts. The dvds. I had a father Ted shirt I lost.

One of the best sitcoms I’ve ever seen. Actually one that works best with a laughter track as well.

There are a few things odd - despite adoring the John and Mary scenes they’re a bit funny now to watch domestic abuse… But hey, it still good.

I heard one of them died, in a really undignified way.

I gave it a 4 because I’m a bit uncomfortable with the character of Dougal

Actually loads of it is pretty insensitive, like that abusive couple

Easy 5. It’s basically perfect. So many little hilarious jokes and set ups. For me it’s the knowingness and timing of the performances that make it. The actual premise to each joke is quite simple (“I really hope Bishop Brennan doesn’t ring now” etc) but the perfect length of pause between that and the phone ringing or whatever the payoff is, and the little expressions and nuances in between is what makes it absolute gold.

Ted is the best comedy character of all time. A normal man in a sea of insanity trying and failing to be better than his surroundings. That will never not be funny.

Obviously it’s played for laughs and that feels different today, but it’s a pretty close observation of a lot of Irish couples tbf

Shame that Linehan is an absolute dickhead

I took your car and drove it into a big wall. I don’t care, I’ve had my fun, and that’s all that matters.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. So many standout moments. The lingerie store, the black spot on the window, the football match, the milk float, the caravan, the caves, Eurovision. So many standout characters and performances. Absolute cast iron 5/5
