That’s a central conflict of the characters though, not something the writer has fallen back on accidentally

Yeah, it’s absolutely a fair criticism. I think if the show itself was more overtly disparaging about the way Rory elevates herself above her ability level and how entitled she is (which it does to some extent, moreso in the films possibly) it would be better but, I think that ASP is kind of seduced by it at the same time as she dislikes it. For me that makes it fascinating to watch but I can absolutely see how it puts others off and it’s completely justifiable.

Their relationship with food is dead bad IMO and there is some absolutely appalling body-shaming/fatism in A Year in the Life

They live in a pretty small house by American standards.

Gilmore Girls is the TV’s comfort watch so I have seen a significant portion. She is in the midst of a rewatch atm.

At first I thought it was alright but increasingly I hate these selfish characters and the weird constant justifications of wealth. The constant music references are appalling too. Kirk also genuinely makes my skin crawl with annoyance.

Mrs Maisel is definitely a much more refined version of the formula and a lot more bearable for me, but I still can’t really stand shows where every single character is the wittiest person ever.

I’m swayed by Jess /Milo as Jack Pearson in This is us.

my gf picked up on this too, she said she was disgusted by how nasty some of the banter was.

It sticks out like a sore thumb when you can’t view it through an “oh, it was a different time” lens

Love GG - introduced to it reluctunctantly by my wife when we first moved in together. Doyle and Gil my personal favourites for minor supporting characters.

whenever they made fun of someone during the original run it was mostly lighthearted tho, it seems weird they went full problematic in 2017.

Are Rory and Lorelai meant to be anti-heroes then?

I’ll admit, that’s not something I picked up when watching it.

Again, I reckon that ASP is a pretty full-on anti-millennial snowflakes “PC gone mad” type

Number of Ayn Rand references throughout its original run from memory

I think they are absolutely supposed to be flawed

My biggest irk about the whole show was how much the whole of Stars Hollow/the world in general fetished Rory, particularly in the first two series. Literally everyone fawned over her like she was the second coming, despite her not actually doing anything good.

I’ll be honest this thread is much more active than I thought it’d be

I don’t get how that follows?

yeah i mean it shows how lorelai’s kooky impulsiveness is funny but also has real world consequences that are quite hurtful sometimes, her marriage etc.
