đŸ“ș How Good Was it Really?: Nathan For You đŸ“ș

The Fresh Prince higher than The Office, Buffy and Malcolm in the Middle? Genuinely baffling.

For the uninitiated

Nathan For You is a comedy show wherein Nathan visits failing businesses and offers them advice on how to improve. The advice consists of ideas that are undeniably ridiculous but also, would undeniably be effective and the humour lies within the business owner’s reactions and willingness to go along with it and with Nathan’s awkward persona and how they respond to him.

Along the way though it morphs increasingly into a show about Nathan’s inability to relate to people or form meaningful relationships and that ongoing arc stops it from descending into just being mean-spirited “gotcha” stuff.

The season finale is genuinely incredible and is completely detached from the initial premise of the show.

Outside of the show he is legitimately hilarious as well:

Easy 5 out of 5.

Such a simple premise but delivered with absolute brilliance. Nathan is immense and some of the characters they have on there are amazing. Untouchable.

Also, for anyone looking for a good starting point I think the Petting Zoo episode is a great illustration of what the show is and how it works.

The pitch is to help an ailing petting zoo by staging a viral video in which a pig rescues a goat from a pond in order to get visitors in to meet the hero pig. The lengths he goes to to execute that plan convincingly get increasingly absurd but it does result in an undeniable viral hit. It’s a perfect example of why the show works in that it’s a ludicrous thing that nobody would ever do but it’s also undeniably a logical thing that would increase the profile of the business. It’s great.

Speaking of high concept Comedy Central shows that ended in 2017. Did anyone watch Review? One of the most brilliant comedies ever. Andy Daly is a treasure. Don’t think it will have anywhere near enough viewers to be included in this though.

Genuinely think that section is the thing that has caused me more laughter than any other few minutes of TV/Film or anything.

When did you put the bottom three as relegated btw? Excellent!

Can we have a redo with Nathan Barley?

if i’ve never heard of it does it get a 1 or a 3

Another vote for Davidoff Neverheardofit

Seen a couple of them (Pancakes, Addiction) and they’re great. Would love to seem them all.

Definitely worth watching from the start as the narrative arc of the show is one of it’s key components. 5 stars!
