Disagree in either sense, I think it shows a commitment and love for the character that is pretty much unrivalled.

developing an extremely detailed and intricate back story for a character is the exact opposite of this

Q: WHAT’S ALAN PARTRIDGE’S FAVOURITE NORWEGIAN ELECTRO-POP BAND?! :norway: :guitar: :keyboard: :dancer: :microphone:

A: Casiokids

Yeah, this. A character thats cheap intellectually wouldn’t rely so much on back story and character traits over obvious humour.

I don’t think there are really callbacks or in-jokes in the recent Partridge stuff (obviously excluding the biography which obviously covers everything). MMM and This Time don’t seem to feature any.

It’s more that he’s (pretty organically, it seems) developed into someone with a complete media career and life in a universe only slightly removed from real life. I don’t know of any other characters who have done this to the same extent, and I think it works really well when they’ve added to it as they do every few years.

Obviously it’s not completely realistic (would he have been brought back from regional radio to co-present This Time? Probably not), but it’s close enough that every time we check in on him he’s moved on a bit in a way that basically makes sense.

It’s why I’m here.

Where’s the best place to watch Mid Morning Matters? I tried to watch one the other day on some site, but it was so riddled with ads it was almost unwatchable.

I reckon the castrol gtx jacket reveal might be my favourite bit

would imagine it’s quite easy to do this though, you have a a couple of good/great series then somebody knocks up a spreadsheet with a brief synopsis of each joke or plot event from those series. A formula is set for how long to leave it before a callback is mentioned, maybe 5-10-15 years? Somebody looks at the spreadsheet and then writes and notes down the callback.

Somebody is tasked with looking up the names of household appliances/high street stores that came to prominance from the 80s - 2000 or has a copy of a Maplin catalogue and makes a big database of these terms. A quota for the character mentioning these is established and denoted too etc.

You should go into comedy, you’ve got is sussed

Off topic (though does contain unintentional/intentional Partridge) so feel free to mod me into the ground but does anyone like The Trip? Seems to be my default casual watch at mo, so good.
