They’re horrendous in every way and shouldn’t be allowed to leave their homes, but I’d be a liar if I claimed Aerosmith wasn’t a cultural staple in 1993. Livin’ on the Edge, Cryin, Crazy, Amazing - all stupidly iconic videos that soundtracked the year.

Some antipodean releases that many/most won’t be familiar with:
The Blackeyed Susans — All Souls Alive
Stunning album by a band that started as a spin-off of the Triffids and, across its formative years, featured at different times various members of the Triffids, The Bad Seeds, The Dirty Three and various other legends of the late-80s to early-90s Australian alt-rock scene. Broadly alt-rock, where “alt” in this instance points to the influence of various “roots” genres (country, soul, folk, jazz) filtered through a Spector-esque “wall of sound” production. Album includes a cover of Leonard Cohen / Phil Spector’s “Memories”. Here’s “Dirty Water”:
The Clouds — Thunderhead
Pixies-esque, sublime female harmonies, all-round underrated excellence. Thunderhead itself their best album, but it remains sensational. “Bower of Bliss” will tell you whether you want to explore further:
Falling Joys — Aerial
Final album from indie/alt-rock almost-crossover artist. Some intricacy of melodies and grooves in amongst pop rock. “XYZ” is a personal favourite:
Straitjacket Fits — Blow
Mentioned above, but didn’t provide a clip. Third album from Flying Nun band, but after a key member left. It featured a slightly different sound, harder, rockier than the predecessor, but also not that divergent from the band’s earliest releases. Pet lovers might fancy a “Cat Inna Can”:

Nominate Album - Eyehategod – Take As Needed For Pain
Best sludge album ever made
Also rounding out a top 10 of sludge / powerviolence records that came out in ’93. (and thanks to @jeromium I can post links now!). Was an amazing year for this on top of everything else. Listened to quite a bit of this at the time and didn’t really appreciate then how brutal some of this stuff is. Remains some of the most misanthropic music I’ve ever heard

Wow. 93 was indeed a bonkers year for music. And I was done with my tribal hip-hop (mid 80’s) and tribal metal (very late 80’s to very early 90’s) mindset and just discovering a lot of this stuff and playing John Peel a lot. Mad times.
