How Good Was The Year (in music) - 2015?

Last week the 1969 thread wrapped up with a place in the top ten of years ranked so far with a favourite album by the Velvet Underground and favourite song by the Stooges. Now we have a much more recent year to recall (though so much has happened since) as we recall, re-listen and eventually rank 2015.

A reminder of the premise of the thread

After a number of days of posting and reminiscing, we’ll be rating the music of the year out of ten, based on the albums, singles, gigs, whatever that stand out for you that year, and voting for our favourite nominated albums and songs.

Everyone can nominate one album and one song from the year which will then be collated into side-polls two days before the thread closes - please make it clear when you post a nomination for the poll (as opposed to just posting clips or lists of songs and albums you like, which are very welcome).

2015 was the year the world was asking if a dress was blue and black or white and gold, Paris saw a series of terrorist attacks at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, the Stade de France and the Bataclan Theatre, Sepp Blatter finally resigned as president FIFA following years of corruption allegations, Jeremy Clarkson left Top Gear and the BBC after punching a producer and NASA found flowing water on Mars.

We said goodbye to Leonard Nimoy, Jackie Collins, Terry Pratchett, Lemmy, Cilla Black, Wes Craven, Christopher Lee, Ruth Rendell and BB King.

But how good was the music?

You have roughly one week to nominate one album and one song which will then go into a poll along with a number rating poll for year overall out of 10, which will close a few days later.

Looking at my AOTY list for this year and… damn. Of the 40+ album on it, I think I may still listen to maybe 2 or 3 of them. And even then, it’s been a good couple of years since I listened to anything from it. Properly forgettable year.

Wasn’t until DAMN came out that I listened to Kendrick properly and he clicked, so he’s rarely been on any of my AOTY lists, but To Pimp A Butterfly is head and shoulder above nearly everything else released this year. Head and shoulders above most albums released in the 2010’s full stop. But it’s already been chosen, so i’m stumped.

Nominate album The Chills - Silver Bullets
Feels like a retrograde choice but the first Chills album in nearly 20 years meant big excitement for me.
