Same situation here as well, delayed trains gave me 20 mins to get from the station at manchester airport to the gate. By the grace of god I made it.

Got a flight to catch tomorrow morning that means getting the first tube. It should get me into Gatwick exactly 2 hours before my flight but wish I could have a bit more of a buffer.

I’d have felt a bit better if this thread had been full of people rocking up half an hour before but you all seem to be worriers like me.

2 hours. Doesn’t matter if I’m flying from Heathrow or an airport which is basically shed with a runway out the back of it. Always 2 hours.

Holiday - 2.5 hours
Work - 1.5 hours

Long-haul - 2.5 hours
Short-haul - 2 hours

If I’m flying home from Geneva airport it’s more like an hour though, I once managed to get from the office to my gate in about half an hour

Manchester airport it takes you a good hour, hour and half to get through the passport and security checks.

that is if you queue up with everyone. Whilst queuing there’s always airport people saying… ‘if your flight departs prior to X, then come to the front of the queue’

This pisses me off.

to answer your question. 2 hours in the UK…

depends when abroad on how you’re getting there… how big the airport is etc.

Possibly my least favourite airport I’ve used

2 hours, often more.

Yeah, that’s the arseholes that are showing up to the airport less than an hour before the departure time ruining it for everyone else.

It’s fine though, because they’re much more important than you or I.

AS A PARENT…this is the best thing about having kids at the airport. Never bother to queue - just walk straight to the front and you always get waved through :+1:

Word :+1:

JFC I’d have left them to miss the flight, who even does that

Did 3 hours last year and was led to believe I’d missed my flight after spending too long dossing around in duty free (Spoons, lunch, Boots toiletries dash). HORRIFYING.

Usually a couple of hours or so. Plenty of time for a breakfast and a pint, but not too much unnecessary hanging about.

We’ve got lounge passes for Gatwick in August, so I’ll probably be checking in at 4 for our 8am flight, in order to make the most of the FREE BAR. Ideal warm up ahead of spending 12 hours on a flight with another FREE BAR.

i got the wrong bus. was about to go and start looking for where to get the bus or train back to the airport having spent a bit longer wandering around the city than planned, when a bus with ‘Manchester Airport’ on the front of it happened to drive past me so I hopped on it. turned out it went via every suburb on the way and took a fucking hour. only discovered this when checking the timetable to find out why it was taking so long, and i’d come too far to get off at that point.

bit fucking confusing lads. also if you’re a bus driver driving the longest possible route to the airport and someone gets on in the city centre and asks for a ticket to the airport, might be a good idea to let them know you’re not the most efficient route and suggest an alternative. just a thought like.

I’ve got free airport lounge access as one of the perks on my bank account - rarely* use it as it’s still not enough of an enticement to spend any longer in an airport than I have to…

*Has been useful a couple of times when I’ve been delayed. And the time I had a five hour layover at Calgary Airport where they let you self pour from their collection of 15 year old single malts - I could barely speak or walk by the time I got on my connecting flight :sunglasses:

With online check-in there really is no reason to be there and queue for an hour at the check-in desk. I will aim to leave about an hour between dropping off the bags and boarding. Also find the whole rush to the gate in order to board quite ridiculous. Your seat is reserved - why do you feel the need to queue for 20 mins to sit in it?

The worst of the worst. We used (USED) to go away with another couple who were a nightmare for faffing around before flights. Once, on the way home from France, they suggested stopping off at the beach for a few hours before the flight despite us having to drive all the way to the airport and then take the hire car back (with a full tank of petrol). We begrudgingly agreed and waited in the car like a pair of stroppy kids.

They were laughing at us stressing out, but the joke was on them when we realised there was funfair on and the roads were rammed. They dropped us at the airport then tore off to the petrol station and hire car place. We hung around for as long as we could, and eventually they came sprinting into the airport saying “See? gasp Plenty of time to spare!!”. They then realised they’d left their passports in the hire car and missed the flight.

Me and the Mrs - :flight_departure:
