I really wanted your classic corner sofa but the setup of our living room means it’s not possible

From this thread I have learned that I have no strong feelings about sofas.

Our sofas from ikea (kalsted?) came in pieces that you built. Dead easy and a decent cheap pair of sofas. Can’t wait to do up the lounge though and get some new ones

We’ve got this La-Z-Boy sofa, both side independently recline more or less flat. You can get individual arm chairs too.

only had a month but opted for two Next sofas (£1050 for the two with discount)
Mainly for the simple style , plenty of fabric choice, and cheaper than so many ugly sofas out there

Went for firm sit option hoping it helps prolong the shape. I suspect I’ll fancy a change within 10 years hence why I went for the lower end

That’s a beaut

Fifty notes innit

Spend as much as you like on one, innit.

Dunno whether Theo’s annoyingly monikered @1101010 incarnation was joking, but I’ve got two IKEA Klippans that have served me very well and lasted me best parts of a decade and a half. £150 each. Bish bash bosh. Wish they did a corner Klippan.

And I couldn’t disagree more with @GEOFF 's claim that…

It’s rare to find a sofa that’s desperately uncomfortable

Many, many sofas are, indeed, very uncomfortable. Many more are also ugly as feck, obv.

@hip_young_gunslinger 's sof goes well with his milking chair, I suppose. There’s that.

How is it any better than an affordable one then?

You can find cheaper ones around, but these are regarded as one of the best imitations…

Deadly serious. We had a pricier sofa but basically it’s either Klippan or drop the price of a new kitchen on some design classic.

Unless you need a sofa bed obviously.

Got a sofa the size of an elephant in a BHS sale for £50. Does the job. Reclines and shit. I’d love to get myself a nice broken in chesterfield thiugh. A deep red one.

Bit of a longer article on it here:

Fair. What I should have said it’s rare to find one in your £500+ range. They’re all reasonable in terms of comfort, I think.

That said I find Klippan’s absolutely unbearable to sit on for more than 5 minutes so fair to say we probably have different ways of taking a sofa on, so to speak.

Prolly.

I find many sofas to be too high, and/or too deep, and/or too ‘collapsy’.

Yeah it’s that low back/side combo on the Klippan that does for me. Simply cannot get comfy on it.

For me there are far too few sofas of adequate depth (if we’re taking depth to mean front to back). I want to sit right on, almost in, the sofa, not perched on top or on the edge of one.

Just got the cushions through yesterday, so this is all done now. Really pleased with how it’s turned out.

I had to do some splicing and filling (the previous owners had just nailed the old webbing into the underside of the sofa), the sanding and Danish Oil took a couple of days, and the rewebbing needed a bit of brute force to do, but there was nothing too complicated in there.

I’ve never spent any money on a sofa
