I reckon Chinese food is the best type of food to buffet on.
If I was going to go to a Chinese buffet I would have:

  • duck pancakes
  • Sui mai
  • mini spring rolls
  • crispy chilli squid
  • crispy chilli beef
  • mushrooms
  • seaweed
  • lots of Hoi sin and satay sauce

I really miss the Chinese buffet round the corner from my flat in oxford where you could fill up a box for a fiver.

Also, the Chinese food in China was the best local food I’ve had in any country. Would go back just for the food.

Marked it a 9 because takeaway doesn’t work as well the next day as leftover local Indian does.

The Manchurian Crispy Lamb from the Jade Fountain in Sawston is probably the most delicious single dish I’ve ever had from a restaurant in this country

So many bad opinions ITT

Had an amazing spicy szechuan tofu thing the other day. Just chillis, chilli oil, tofu and rice. Perfect.

This place in Nottingham is amazing too ;

I was put off by Chinese food for a while as it turned out my shitty hometown actually had a really good Chinese takeaway, so when I moved to Nottingham a lot of places I tried (including restaurants) didn’t hit the spot.

Pigs ears served in the same style as pulpo a feira is one of the best things I’ve eaten in Spain.

As others have said, bit hard to judge because of the huge diversity. Of course, when I was in Beijing…

If we’re going on UK Cantonese style it’s a 7, but it can easily vary from 5 to 9.

I honestly quite like the Chinese chippy style where you get half rice, half chips. Think this might be a NW England thing though?

used to have pigs ear, olive oil and pimenton toasted sandwiches a lot after one of my classes last year <3 on par or better than bacon sangers.

Never really understood people who go all squeamish about liver or patΓ© or whatever but will happily tuck into a steak or ham.

Just chips. Salt & chilli chips.

I always ADORE chips from a Chinese takeaway.

Chinese takeaway - objectively 1/10, but sometimes I crave it.
Dim sum restaurants in the UK - 6/10
Dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong - 8/10
Hot pot (both Sichuan and Cantonese style) - 9/10
The TV’s homemade mapo tofu - TEN OUT OF TEN
(Taiwanese bubble tea - also 10/10)

Would choose Indian, Pizza, Mexican over it.
I take it we’re not including Vietnamese either which is slightly better imho

Is Vietnam in China? Well, is it?

Only a 6 from me. Could well have been a 7 or maybe even an 8 if a) China Town II, just round the corner from me, hadn’t closed last year. I haven’t found another decent Chinese takeaway close to my house, and also b) I hadn’t had an absolutely TERRIBLE Chinese meal in a restaurant in Spain (or maybe it was France) about 10/15 years ago. I subsequently found out that while a lot of our takeaways seem bad, on continental Europe back then they were terrible. Also, at least one point docked off for MSG.
