Yep that’s q where I heard it. “loved” maybe not the right word. Especially the last story

I loved it. Don’t tell me what I can love.

I reckon in medieval times I would have died in infancy.

That’s always been my plan.

What was their crime?

The other day I was wearing boots and socks and my feet were getting really uncomfortably hot and I thought to myself ‘I wouldn’t last a minute in one of those iron boots they used to torture people with in the medieval times’

I’d sell you all out to make it stop.

establishing an anabaptist cult of personality that ruled the city during a fairly brief rebellion. their crime was both political in terms of being religious fundamentalists and heretics, but also personal in terms of how they used the rebellion to enrich themselves and submit the population to financial and sexual slavery.

JFC.
Going to have to read up on this. Sounds very interesting.

if like me you’re too lazy to read I recommend the Hardcore History podcast episode about torture and execution that draws on this as a lengthy case study. I’m sure it’s over-sensationalised, fetishistic and a great deal of the detail would be contested by actual historians, but if you’ve got the capacity to listen with a critical ear I’d say it’s worth it.

oh hang on I might be conflating two separate podcast episodes, but hey you’ve got the internet I’m sure you’ll work it out.

Some of this shit is going down in Q by the Luther Blissett lads.

googles
why did they name it after a Watford striker?

Off the top of me head

Luther Blissett is a multiple-use name, an “open pop star” informally adopted and shared by hundreds of artists and activists all over Europe and the Americas since 1994. The pseudonym first appeared in Bologna, Italy, in mid-1994, when a number of cultural activists began using it for staging a series of urban and media pranks and to experiment with new forms of authorship and identity. From Bologna the multiple-use name spread to other European cities, such as Rome and London, as well as countries such as Germany, Spain, and Slovenia.[1] Sporadic appearances of Luther Blissett have been also noted in Canada, the United States, Finland and Brazil.

For reasons that remain unknown, though according to one former member the decision was based purely on the perceived comic value of the name,[2] the pseudonym was borrowed from a real-life Luther Blissett, a notable association football player, who played for A.C. Milan, Watford F.C. and England in the 1980s.[3] In December 1999, the Italian activists who had launched the Luther Blissett Project in 1994 decided to discontinue usage of the name by committing symbolic ritual suicide, or seppuku.[4] After authoring the best-selling historic novel Q as “Luther Blissett”, five of them went on to found the writers’ collective Wu Ming

"The point was then inserted into anus or vagina of the person, and then the person was slowly lowered by a system of ropes. The victims were usually naked, adding to the overall humiliation of the torture, and tortured by intense pressure and stretching of the orifice. Sometimes, various weights were tied to the legs, to dramatically increase the pain, and eventually tear muscular tissues of the orifice.

This torture could last from a few hours to several days. Device was never washed, so the torture could often lead to painful infection or even death."

Yikes :grimacing:

Just how the fuck did they figure anyone ever deserved that?

You have to wonder if a lot of these particularly cruel torture methods were less about getting confessions or information and more about sadistic pleasure on the behalf of people who could basically do whatever they wanted.

Personally, like most of us relatively privileged 21st century citizens I would be useless at resisting anything painful I think.

I’ve had my teeth tested for sensitivity where they squirt cold water on the root of a tooth and I confessed to the murders of Amelia Earhart and Jimmy Hoffa in a matter of seconds. Told them where the diamonds were straight after.

I was a bit obsessed with medieval oops was going to abandon. Fucksake.
Might as well continue now.
-torture when I was a kid/early teen. It’s pretty fascinating.
Had quite a few books on it.
That saw one :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: I don’t know if there any recorded cases of them actually using one though, are there? Imagine sawing through a living human being as they scream in agony. Actually don’t cos fucking HELL.
