I like things tidy and organised. The TV and our two daughters belong to the “as soon as i’ve finished using something it ceases to exist and therefore will remain wherever I’ve dropped it” school of thought.

Our house is therefore a lopsided war of attrition between the Clean and the Chaotic.

Mine is an absolute tip at the minute and it’s doing my head in somewhat. On average it’s about an hour’s worth of sprucing away from being visitor ready but there is fucking clutter everywhere at the minute, teaching resources all over the front room, the kitchen needs a clean and the bathroom is in the height of it’s cold weather damp grimness.

Yeah, clutter, lack of space and lack of storage is annoying me. When I clean and tidy I do it properly I just don’t like feeling like I have to do it, or enforcing that they do either. I want us to just be relaxed. We’re both really similar so that’s good! I lived with someone who was quite aggressive with her cleanliness, I lived in daily fear.

As the GF has invited a bunch of people around tonight to watch some baking nonsense, I hope it’s visitor ready.

Usually is, just needs a bit of a tidy to clear the clutter. Our kitchen is a constant mess which irks me a bit.

exactly this. it should be easy, but its just not when we dont have places for things. or when gf decides to tidy things up to a place which makes no sense whatsoever

My friends are all equally as messy as me, so never any need to tidy except for the after effects of a major pizza/film night.

Bedroom is an embarrassment though, so always need a solid 30 mins to make that presentable for anyone who might see it.

Haha!! Yes yes yes. Absolutely! When we have our own place I’m going to storage and organise the fuck out of the place. Oh and I dread the question “do you know where my x is?” only because he’s normally put it somewhere silly but I always have the doubt that maybe I tidied it away.

I’ve always been tidy but having a baby has undone that. I clean the flat each week on a Sunday, by Tuesday it’s grim again and I wouldn’t want anyone to see it.

An example of why people should give notice about popping round. Yesterday my mum got a random visit when she was in the midst of burying our cat  I think she had to stop digging the hole to make them a cup of tea. Sigh.

going to tidy up off the back of this thread. it’s that bad.

I am desperately trying to regain control of the spare room. I’ve been here 3 weeks and it’s already starting to look like a junk room.

Virtually spotless at all times. My wife is a total maniac when it comes to tidyness. I quite like a bit of orderly clutter myself, it adds character, but nope.

Biggest war about this is having to empty the dish drainer/rack every single night. Sometimes having to dry stuff away as soon as it’s been put in there. I absolutely despair.

I like an empty dish drainer. I also like my dish drainer thing (the bit underneath that feeds into the sink?) to be cleaned and dried each night. It makes it look so messy if theres plates and shit there!

I do also like my sink to be completely dry but the current drippy tap situation is driving me insane.

Yeah but… just leave them there overnight and put them away once the thing has done it’s job and everything’s fucking dry. Few plates and a pan and some spoons never hurt anyone…

Mine is generally pretty tidy (if you ignore the fact the hall is a building site and the bathroom is not much better)

But that’s cos that’s how I like it - not for visitors

No thank you!
Looks messy. Not happy going to sleep with messy things knocking about.

Not very. Got my folks down at the weekend which mean every night this week while involve manic whirlwind tidying. It’s no way to live but we’re just fundamentally lazy people I guess.

Fair enough.
