Isn’t the idea of paying for spotify that you no longer need a data allowance? Or have I been wolfcastled here?

Idk but the way I’m using it is just to download stuff for offline listening when I’m on wifi then have it set not to connect to 3G.

Yeah, you can download as much as you like from Spotify. But if your phone contract only allows, say, 1GB a month then you would soon hit that limit. If you’ve a high limit / unlimited amount of data then you can stay connected all the time and won’t need to download.

Just download it at home/in the office.

I mostly make playlists of artists, and have them on for a few days at a time. I also make a playlist every month of stuff I’ve been listening to - new and old. It’s great for looking back.

An album is just a playlist someone already spent loads of time getting perfect.

call me a white middle class male rockist, but I’m not really a fan of playlists

I like mixes though. compilations are good as well. but playlists, good god no

Ah, OK.

I’m concerned you don’t understand how mobile data works now. Or maybe I’m the one being wolfcastled.

I think JohnM is saying you can download albums/playlists (if you’re not a white middle class male rockist) while connected to wifi and then listen in offline mode when not connected to wifi thus not needing to use any of your data allowance.

Or are you saying everyone has unlimted data allowances now?

I guess so. He’s worded it oddly, though (hence the replies he got).

No he hasn’t, it makes perfect sense.

Paying for Spotify doesn’t just allow you to store files on your device, does it? I thought there were other benefits, such as albums playing in the correct order, audio quality and certain tracks that were locked out to free users?

You make a good case, I’ve change my mind, the bloke’s a fucking idiot.

Yeah. I mean standing up for @JohnM is never a good look on here.

Who is this VincentAdultman twat? brusma?

No idea. I assumed he was an alt of yours. He’s surely a full TST member? Can’t be brusma because he would never be able to even pretend to defend you.

No adverts is a bloody good thing too.

don’t pay for Spotify but i’ve currently only got a 2GB memory card for my phone, cos the 64GB one i bought doesn’t work with it and there’s no point getting a 32GB to tide me over cos i need to get a new phone soon anyway.

so i just swap the music over every few days or once a week at least. tend to load on anything new i’ve bought which i’ll keep on there for a while, and pick out old ones i fancy listening to that week which will usually get deleted off again after one listen, two at most.

not sure how it works with Spotify (i assume you mean downloading them to play offline?), can’t you delete and replace the albums regularly after a couple of plays?

do they still do the locking some material for free users thing? been ages since i’ve seen an album show up as ‘premium users only’, though occasionally see one track from an album show as unavailable, don’t know if that’s related at all.

i only use desktop though, dunno whether the free version on mobile has more extra restrictions that free desktop doesn’t, like the shuffle-only thing (if they ever bring that to desktop i’ll kick off)
