Huge archive of Peel Sessions etc

Some good contenders for the ‘Name an artist you reckon no one has thought about in years’ thread e.g. Head of David.

This is a great find

Quite a few I didn’t realise had done so many sessions e.g. Siouxsie and the Banshees

Long forgotten, but this was a big favourite of mine back in the day

Still sounds really good

Yeah, I was a teenage fan back in the day

Just had a quick google… they released a new single yesterday

Pretty decent too!

Just listened to the Trail of Dead session from 2002 and Cop Shoot Cop from 1991. Great stuff, I like how they’ve left bits of Peel’s links in them.

So good. Love the extended breakdown, which would only get more insane live as time went on.

Did a double-take at The Fugees in there. That era of BBC Radio definitely had a blind spot when it came to black music.

Peel played absolutely loads of African music and hip hip tbf. He was always pretty supportive of British black artists as well - he had Steel Pulse in for a session (their first ever time in a music studio) when no one else would go near them.

Westwood, Andy Kershaw and Pete Tong played loads of black music during this era too in fairness, even if the mainstream slots weren’t anything like as good

:+1: Fair enough. I started listening to Peel in the late-90s/early-00s when there was a lot of noodly electronica supported by a small amount of niche guitar music. Westwood aside, my listening didn’t encounter much black music, beyond what was in the Top 40.
