I ponder if this was partly because they (Million Dead) broke up so soon after the release of their second album.

Agreed, when I saw them live I think the year they released they released the new album I thought the place would be absolutely rammed. Instead a fair bit of the crowd left half way through the set. Interestingly they were supported by Full of Hell who are arguably the bigger band now.

Ah yes, I was trying to remember who the other band on the bill was. I think they changed their name not too long after that show.

They’re pretty great though reminded me a little of Kylesa.

The Automatic. They got stiffed with distribution issues, it sold really patchily, never really charted etc.

3rd was a bit weak for me, so i wasnt looking forward to no. 4, but its brilliant. different sound cause the membership changed a bit, but well worth a listen
