Sleep during the day and get a job at night. Therefore 2 wages.

I don’t think you get these sorts of threads, the hypothetical is supposed to have some kind of downside.

i could happily stay at home all day tbh, i find work insanely stressful. not cos of the tasks but because of the amount of social interaction. i find it very difficult to get to know other people and make friends, so i prefer to keep people at a comfortable distance where i can shoot the breeze with them in a friendly way, maybe cheer them up a bit if they’re having a bad time, but i never, ever get close enough to have to deal with their bullshit when they start stressing about the job, or whatever. sometimes it’s a bit lonely but mostly not.

then there are so many birthday drinks and staff nights out to avoid. it always gets harder to find an excuse after the first 18 months or so.

Without wanting to come across as a bit of a shop steward, i probably wouldn’t, purely because i’ve spent periods of time out of work and i found it really depressing. You can get out of the habit of engaging with people, and even any social life outside of work will suffer. I have to get out of bed in the morning, or i’ll lie there all day, and as ridiculous as it sounds, i don’t enjoy that all that much a lot of the time.

I’d absolutely swap, say, half of my working week for staying in bed, but stopping in bed every day would only result in me smelling of arse and jizz, and boozing pretty much non stop.

yes but I’d not be able to do it for longer than three months

Earlier this year I resigned from my job without a new one to go to, then spent three months with no job, living on the redundancy money I got last year. I did loads of music stuff and it was great fun but once I got a job again (which was only part time) I realised that having a job that got me out of the house was essential.

I left that position for a job that is full time but more money, better hours and not horrendously repetitive. Working part time is absolutely my goal if it pays enough though

Ugh, no. I love my job and hate sitting at home.

Without having/ being able to leave my house, I would have even more of a problematic relationship with booze, so not for me, Clive.

Of course I’d stay home. I hate everyone I work with and would be able to get on with my hobbies, get new ones or do some form of education online whenever I wanted. Could even be hungover some days. Sounds absolutely fine.
Only problem would be having to make sure to get any/all groceries before the next day, or if it was really nice and sunny out (but I guess if I was allowed a lunch hour out like I get in work both of these things would be just like normal)

I don’t have a wage so I’ve been doing this for the last year anyway. Have to say getting out of the house and having a regular routine is doing wonders for my health (both mental and physical) so far.

For same day delivery of groceries and pretty much everything else I use Amazon Prime. And you can afford that with what you’re saving on commuting costs.

I work at home. I don’t see anyone or really leave the house each day. It can take its toll. Planning on buying our own place soon though which means I can get a dog. That’ll make a huge difference to my sanity.

Also, I spend a lot of time on WhatsApp posting shit to my friends because I’m starved of human contact.

Nah. Whilst a large proportion of my working day is spent getting people to leave me the fuck alone, I still wouldn’t swap it for being what is essentially under house arrest.

The workplace is house arrest too, just a different house

Mine isn’t. I can go outside whenever I want, within reason.

Appreciate not everyone’s job affords them this though, which is why I’ll hold back from criticising your metaphor wholesale.

This basically amounts to “can you bear your job”

could easily do it for 6 months - a year maybe. probably longer but would reevaluate after that.

Am I allowed to pick my son up from school?

this is basically what twitch streamers* do, and lots of them get burned out and exhausted after a while (lots don’t too).

(people who record and broadcast themselves playing games all day on the internet)

if you’re looking for excuses to get out of doing that, I don’t think this will cut the mustard
