I was like this a few years back. I think it comes from drinking directly from the can and drinking shit lagers at that.

I remember being outraged that someone was buying canned beer from a Wetherspoons. That is now outrageous for a totally different reason.

Point stands. I was right.

Fuck the lot of you!

Ah yes we’re all drinking carlsberg but if you’re round at someone’s house for family events there’s no need to be sniffy about what you’re offered. Especially irritating because my extended family doesn’t bring wine or beer to parties as you’d expect

Anyway, Guinness tastes of 2pence pieces

I think youve answered youre own question there.

No that’s (delicious) Newcastle Brown Ale

yeah, pretty much agree. beamish is a better drink. Pretty much any stout at a wanky ale house is also more interesting

It’s good living somewhere where Guinness is the standard pint in a pub and usually the cheapest.

Also really appreciate that it’s only 4ish %. Definitely the best taste/price/abv sweetspot of any standard draught option.

I shall always have a place in my heart for Guinness. It was often the best (kegged) thing on tap. It was my default pint for years.
Also, that episode of Parts Unknown in Dublin when Anthony Bourdain takes his first sip of Guinness for ages. His eyes.

Love that episode, especially how many different ways he thinks of to describe the drink without using the brand name.

A real London stout or porter is a million times superior to the inferior version that Guinness ripped off and made popular through quality advertising, yes.

Which ones though? Fuller’s Porter on cask is a world class beer but very rarely available. Their Black Cab stout, which is just a Guinness clone, is very forgettable. Kernel Expert Stout is nicer than Guinness, but again, you’re not going to see it in the same kind of pubs.

Only drink Guinness at certain pubs where I know the lines are running most of the time - Irish pubs mainly.

It reminds of going to away games when I was young, free and easy. Every pub will have it, no matter how bad, and it will usually be the best thing on offer. Highly sessionable - can drink it all day and not be too hammered - great paired with crisps.

Newcastle Brown Ale tastes noticeably worse since it stopped being made in Newcastle.

Guinness ice lolly would work i reckon

I cannot conceive how that is possible.

Isn’t that a euphemism for a mimsy?

Think it’s the recipe change more than the location change that will have really made a difference.
