I can't remember a song!

My daughter listens to and sings this song “All I Want is You” by Barry Louis Polisar

Some of the lyrics are:
If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I’d want is you to be my sweet honey bee
And if I was a tree growing tall and green
All I’d want is you to shade me and be my leaves

If you were a river in the mountains tall
The rumble of your water would be my call
If you were the winter, I know I’d be the snow
Just as long as you were with me, when the cold winds blow

If you were a wink, I’d be a nod
If you were a seed, well I’d be a pod
If you were the floor, I’d wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I’d be a hug

It totally reminds me of an odies song that I loved 30 years ago and I can’t remember anything about it except for it had similar lyrics to the above song, with similar metaphors or personification about love.

I’m pretty sure it is a classic oldies song from the 50s or 60s.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME???

Is it this:

No, it is not by the same singer!

Oh, ok. No idea then.

It’s probably wrong, but the lyrics really put me in mind of If… by The Divine Comedy.

All places where the song is listed cite Polisar as the songwriter, dating to 1977. But there is something familiar about it. It’s definitely influenced by something else from further in the past. But I can’t place it. But it will now be an earworm all bloody day so it might well pop into my head at any time.

It reminds me a little bit of England Swings by Roger Miller. But, no, I think it’s actually something else… Or maybe a mixture of influences bunged into one song?
