Mainly Patrick Stewart, thought he was woeful in it

Are you James Corden?

I hope not!

Seriously though, I thought he was great. All cool and in control, but felt like there was lots of pure rage simmering under the surface.

Good film. Had been thinking about a rewatch after hearing the review of this on the Horror Rocks episode of Year In Horror. All of the cast are so good in this and there’s a real sense of dread throughout…

So agreed about the dread, think films like this (dread-inducing) are some of my favorites.

very good! love the synths, the 80s orange glow, and the lovely homegrown accents

I might get into shorts this year

Thought The Monkey was rubbish. Gah, his films always look like something I’d really be into, but afterwards I just feel like he’s wasted my time.

Did a little horror all nighter

Presence - this was probably the lock of the bunch, light on the horror and was expecting something a bit different but decent concept.

The House of the Devil - can see Ti West has been working hard on his aesthetic from the start. Quite enjoyed the slow burn nature to this plus combined with how it is cut in with Greta Gerwig getting shot but then all felt wasted and rushed at the end.

The Outwaters - no idea why this is so high up on lists, all for a cosmic horror but it was basically watching a black screen for the second half. At least there were some donkeys in it for a bit before the graphic ending.

The Monkey - quite enjoyed this maybe because it was the last watch so the pacing after the others was a nice change and a low effort watch. It needed more Tatiana Maslany.

Maybe more horror adjacent, but this had a ton of violence and gore and body abuse in it so including here - watched Novocaine last night.

How much you enjoy this is probably largely down to how much you like Jack Quaid who plays his regular ah shucks character. Strong genre actor support from Amber Midthunder and Betty Gabriel. There are multiple multiple wince inducing moments in this - it’s pretty much a John Wick film if John Wick spent the entire film badly losing every fight he got into. It’s pretty light on story but entertaining enough…

Pfft, you can say that about anything :woman_shrugging:

Absolute waste of a film this, agreed.

I saw Cherry Falls, a very 00s slasher about a killer targeting virgins. Actually has a decent story despite the flimsy premise and is pretty good fun. @JaguarPirate will love it

Also recently saw Prey, the Predator prequel. Was alright, looked amazing. Just not really into these films

havent seen in years but definitely liked a lot, could go a rewatch

The main character from Prey was in the film I watched last night coincidentally - thought she was good in both. For me, Prey was the only decent Predator film since Predator 2 (and for some reason I’ve seen every single one including the AvP trash) but that’s fairly faint praise…

She’s in Opus too in a really minor role, odd considering how central she is in Prey (and how her mum was casting director for Opus too)

I dint think Prey was bad at all, it looks great and it is entertaining but I just wasnt overwhelmed by it at all

There’s a new Predator film coming later this year apparently but a) it doesn’t feature Amber Midthunder and b) it’s set in space, both of which dampen any excitement I might have.

Looking forward to catching Opus though :+1:

She was also a regular character in Legion, the Marvel series from a few years ago. Still need to get around to watching Prey.
