I don't really get the point of getting into someone new if they've split up/dead

If someone recommends a band or something and they’re no longer going, probably won’t give them a listen. If there’s a prospect of getting to see them play live in future count me in. Otherwise, no thanks!

Think I’m the opposite.

Dead or disgruntled. That’s my wheelhouse.

Same with films. If they’re on DVD or streaming services already I don’t give a shit.

not many bands have split up dead tbf

I like it. Means I’ll never have to leave the sofa.

If Lynyrd Skynyrd can do it, so can anyone

there’s this thing called music

The point is that you can collect their entire discography without having to wait

Pros:

  • Nice knowing they probably won’t say or do anything reprehensible that means you have to stop listening to them
  • Finite discographies meaning you don’t feel obliged to listen to new stuff that probably won’t be any good

Cons:

  • Won’t ever see them live
  • The finite discographies point above being undermined by tedious nerds who want to release loads of pointless demos and B-sides.

Better chance they won’t post any dodgy tweets

Don’t really get the point of getting into someone new if they exist

Most Artists have a purple patch of maybe 2-3 albums and if they are exceptionally good maybe 2-3 more that are engaging before churning out mediocre rehashes. Maybe 2/3rds of artists are deeply average live acts too.

Dont think im missing too much of them being dead.

I get the point of getting into a no longer active artist, but usually I just can’t be bothered. I guess I just like the prospect of hearing something new from an artist in future.

Imagine if The Beatles released new offensive tweets with the help of AI

But your profile picture is of someone who’s dead

Do you feel the same about acts who are a going concern but who don’t ever perform live?
