What is tonic water and why is it called tonic? What’s it a tonic to? Don’t think it has magic healing properties does it?

Yeah, I remember it but I can’t remember what it was for or what happened or why the person was saying it or what they looked like
Tonic contains Quinine, which used to be believed to cure / prevent Malaria, IIRC
Are you aware it is a compound plural? Gins and tonic.
