I knew three (‘Don’t Talk Just Kiss’ - “let your tongue fool around” - a classic). But apparently they had four top five UK singles…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_Said_Fred#Singles

Deeply Dippy was a classic!

Hmmm, that’s a better song than “I’m Too Sexy”, which really only has novelty value.

Actually this says that she decided it was infringing first and asked them

She must be backed by a huge legal team who check literally everything if that’s true. Weird AF frankly.

Big artists are covering their backs for everything now. The one that stands out for me is Animal Collective getting a writing credit on Lemonade for Beyonce singing “She’s too smart to crave material things”. The similarity is literally the use of the phrase “material things” and they didn’t want to risk anything so gave a payout.

“In fact, if Swift’s song had been too sexual, the group may not of have let her use it.”

Is it of or have?
Just use both.

Wow, never knew that. I guess another earlier example would be Bruno Mars giving Trinidad James a writing credit for using the phrase “don’t believe me, just watch” from his song All Gold Everything, even though it’s sung in a completely different way

Let’s get it Ed

(Always been amazed at how identical the two songs are)

Yeah, always thought this was much more obvious than Blurred Lines/Got To Give it Up…

“There was an arch outside Buckingham Palace that has a heating duct and I spent a couple of nights there. That’s where I wrote the song ‘Homeless,’” Sheeran wrote. He later clarified the comments, saying he had never been homeless but that he just “went without a bed for some nights, that’s it.”

Jessie J actually co-writes a lot of her songs so she’ll be getting those sweet publishing royalties. She also co-wote Party In the USA for miley cyrus, i bet that song alone generates a shit ton of money.

I have a relative who co-wrote a song for Fleetwood Mac, on what’s generally considered their worst/least popular post-Rumours album, but it made it onto a ‘Best Of’ in the 80s and I’m pretty sure he still lives off the royalties.
