so the rhetoric that Japes was using in ‘why not 6 year olds?’ is exactly the same rhetoric used in ‘why not blacks?’
the substance might be different - because our view of society is currently inclusive (for the most part) of understanding that women & people of colour are actually human beings too - but the argument is the same and who knows what society will accept in the future, maybe we’ll have robots suffrage in 100 years time ?
But the point is moot because the question is ‘Why do you think 14 year olds don’t deserve suffrage when 16 year olds do?’
Think of a fixed term 4 year parliament. If you’re to become an ‘adult’ (ie 18) during that term of mandate then why should you not have any influence over the political landscape you become an adult in and have to face the consequences of ? Especially if you consider that at the other end of the age scale there are people with months or even weeks to live who who get to influence the agenda
