We’ve got a flat ceiling in our hallway (house built 1870) that is covering up some lovely cornices/ceiling roses. Previous owners were terrible at putting in bodged DIY which has been a real pain to put right - would cost a small fortune to restore it annoyingly.

does writing count as a trade? I’m alright at that, as it goes (I get paid for it on a freelance basis, but nowhere near enough for it to be a full-time concern).

I do still harbour ambitions that one day I’ll write full-time in some capacity, but I have no desire whatsoever to become a full-time freelancer

My brother is fascinated by church bells and in his spare time spent some unpaid time working in a bell foundry. He also has worked in bell towers, clearing them out and restringing (?) the ropes and putting new ones in.

When Brexit happens/the apocalypse comes and England reverts to the middle ages, he’ll be laughing.
