If you were young now, what music would you be into?

If you were a teenager now, do you think tech would make your music taste weirder or more mainstream than it is now or was when you were young? Would you even be into music as much?

I absolutely dread to think

I mean, they were dead old when I was a teenager & I was into them then

If we’re talking new bands though…well, you wouldn’t have heard of them

both acts my daughter likes, I would never have heard for them if it wasn’t for her, and yet they have individually both sold out a 1500 cap venue here,

Whatever it would be, it wouldn’t be what I’m into atm. We’re all a product of influence and those influences would be vastly different to what has shaped my tastes over the years.

So I’d say I’d be into disco

I’m not really sure what I’d be listening to. I know that he’s persona non grata nowadays but John Peel was such a massive influence on directing my taste - a Spotify algorithm just isn’t quite the same.

I loved/like TV Girl and felt pretty pleased/lucky to see them support Elvis Depressedly back in 2017. They just seemed like a small band/chap that wouldn’t ever come here to play. I think he/they then did a couple of other gigs after that, and was suddenly headlining Shepherd’s Bush Empire for one or two nights, which just totally surprised me, as I don’t know how that came about.

I still like him, but his songs seem to have some kind of strange almost misogynistic focus that makes me a bit unsure.

trying to be different by getting into stuff not on streaming probably

It’s hard to say, but like rich-t said it wouldn’t be what I’m listening to now because we are products of our influences and these are different times.

Weirder or more mainstream? I wanna say weirder because the internet allows us to explore more things than when I was young, but who knows what friends and influences I’d have. Could be listening to Taylor Swift for all I know.

Think Press Club would be the most important band in the world to me

I got a lot of my older tastes from my mum (Neil Young, Velvet Underground) so I feel that would remain in this weird time warp scenario

I hope I’d be into rap a lot faster. Genre cliques don’t seem to matter so much and with streaming think I’d dive right in rather than be weirdly dismissive for as long as I was. Probably big into some of the emo rap guys tbh

Yes. My music taste got weirder when I got access to broadband internet at 19 so pretty sure that would have happened earlier if I was young now.
