Iggy Pop's Solo Career

Everyone knows how great The Stooges, ‘The Idiot’ and ‘Lust for Life’ are, however, what does everyone think of Iggy’s solo albums after that? I seem to have acquired a lot of them over the years from charity shops etc without really noticing. Any hidden gems in the catalogue? I did put on ‘American Caeser’ (1993) the other day and thought it was a pretty good album.

Enjoy the first two and Post Pop Depression, never really felt like investigating the rest.

Saw him this summer and he did a couple of songs from the latest album which slotted into the live set quite well but I was less interested in the recorded versions for whatever reason.

Admittedly I’ve never spent a huge amount of time with them, but I never found too much to love. Depending on my mood The Idiot could make my all time top 10 albums, but he never really captured anything like it after.

i used to like a lot of new values (tell me a story probably being my favourite song he’s done outside the stooges) but don’t think i’ve listened to any after that

Post Pop Depression is a classic example to me of “oh this is much better than I’d expect at this stage but after two weeks I’ll still never listen to it again”.

Looking through a box of old CDs and these are the ones i’ve got (but haven’t necessarily listened to):

New Values (1979)
Soldier (1980)
Party (1981)
Zombie Birdhouse (1982)
Blah Blah Blah (1986)
Brick by Brick (1990)
American Caeser (1993)
Naughty Little Doggie (1996)
Avenue B (1999)

Blah Blah Blah is the shiny commercial one, worth a listen if only to imagine an impossible future of him moving into arena rock in the 90s. It’s got Cry For Love on it, that’s good.

Remember buying real wild child on vinyl from a shop in Ibiza….
It warped on the way home so I had to cycle to Shotton to buy it again from Woolworths :+1:

I quite enjoyed Préliminaires, which is amusing enough if you want to hear iggy singing standards in unconvincing french, jazz songs about dogs, etc.

I listened to it quite a lot that year but yeah I don’t think I’ve really gone back to it for some reason

9 years ago, holy shit

Superman told me he’s a punk rocker, yes he is

I’ve always had a soft spot for Avenue B.
Facade is a great closer…

Love’s Missing from Free is a great latter day banger.

kill city is a great record

although I like big daft rocking iggy more than trying to be bowie iggy

new values is real good

obsessed with this music video where he’s dancing around a scrapyard

As above - I listen to much of it once and go “this isn’t too bad” and then never again but

I’m in a frenzy, you fucking prick
I’m in a frenzy, you goddamn dick

has stuck with me.
