I always make sure I say one or two ‘funny’ things during meetings to deflect attention away from my utter contempt for the job. rarely contribute anything of substance, but I feel as though my tactic has served me well over the years.

I’m in Milan for 3 days of meetings.
I normally enjoy it but it’s been pretty long and tiring.
Still in today’s now - 9 and due to end at 7pm :confused:

Never known a meeting come away any differently from how it was always intended from the outset. Stick it in an email, if anyone has a problem just pick up the fucking phone (or better yet just reread the email).

Our boss comes to visit every 2 weeks or so and we have a meeting where he basically goes through all the emails he sent to us over the past 2 weeks. Absolutely pointless.

Like I get it, higher ups need to be seen doing something and this is their way of avoiding actual work - and I love avoiding work, but let’s do away with the pantomime of perceived flexibility, recognise the decision making all comes down to hierarchy rather than good ideas anyway, and then I don’t need to do my interested face the whole way through.

Part of my job is typing out transcripts of meetings. I can confirm that you guys who have meetings, boy, sometimes you’re boring. But sometimes, wow, there’s a lot of needle in there. Also, AGMs and so on can get properly heated. So yeah, meetings. A mixed bag, as an observer.

I’ve just volunteered to be part of a new interview panel at my company, to do interviews with candidates about their values and cultural fit as opposed to their skills and experience, which will be handled by other people. We spent hours last week refining our company values and mission statement and questions we could ask to help to identify them in people.

I find the whole thing completely ridiculous and borderline bullshit, but I figure my best disguise is going deep undercover and pretending like I really care.

i now work in the third sector so i feel that values etc. are actually meaningful but when i worked for private profit making companies it was so painful pretending there was such a thing as values outside of trying to make a profit

Managed to convince multiple employers my propensity to doodle in meetings was part of my natural learning psychology :joy:
