Frida Kahlo has been ‘popular’/heavily merchandised for aeons by this point, the backlash of people pointing out the irony of someone who was fiercely communist and anti-Western (maybe even anti-white) becoming a lazily picked pop culture icon has come in waves and usually fallen on deaf ears.

In summary: Ché Guevara 2.0, This Time It’s ‘Feminist’

(lazy on my part to compare Ché and Frida, of course, but they share the unique experience of being completely misrepresented and commodified)

Often find myself hate-trawling Cool Parent Instagram™ and Frida Kahlo was quite a popular Halloween ‘choice’ for toddlers this year.

A major Frida Kahlo retrospective opened at the V&A in June 2018.
