Hello everyone! I am looking for some advice.
- My first request would be advice for car insurance. Essentially, I have to fly into Faro (Portugal) and would like to explore Southern Spain as well. I’ve booked a hire car at Faro airport. Is there third-party insurance I can get to cover accidents in both between the two countries and not break the bank? The car hire company has said I must pay a 50-Euro “International Supplement” at the hire desk. Does this seem reasonable?
Secondly, any advice for nice things to do in this region? I can’t go drinking of anything (IBS) so pubs and bars are off the table but pretty much anything else is OK.
Which one is it with at Faro is at the blokes in the shack in P1 Car Park?
TV’s uncle drove to Seville with his American friends before we went out and paid some ridiculous fee on for the 2 weeks he had the car which I think was more than €50. It’s partially to do with the toll road devices that are different between Spain and Portugal.
As for places Loulé, Silves and Monchique are worth a visit. Loulé has a great market hall. Portimao isn’t terrible neither is Lagos. We stay in Carviero which is nice place for a beach day and they have the caves round there. Avoid all the obvious Algarve places like the plague Vilamora and Albufeira in particular. We went to Vilamora once cause the eldest needed a rest/ice cream awful place there is a Figo and Ronaldo bar next to each other. Never made it to Spain keep meaning to, keep running out of time/lazy.
I’m not sure who the rental company is. But having checked it’s clear that if I were to drive to Spain, I’d need to pay the 50 Euros to cross the border. I am covered for insurance either side but not for crossing the border, which is a pain but there you go.
The cool thing is though is that whilst my accommodation is in Spain, it’s so close to the border I can actually park my car and be picked up (which is pretty sweet).
Cheers for the cool Portugal recommendations. I think what I need to do is make a rough plan of stuff to do and decide if it’s worth exploring around the Spanish area when there’s so much cool Portuguese stuff to do. Will deffo check out Carviero- sounds awesome.
There is the El Caminito del Rey in Malaga but that might be too far over if you are going to Spain only just remembered it. Been to Carviero way too much don’t know if it is good or not anymore you’ll have to let me know,
