Remember being so excited when Leif Erickson and The New turned up in this set list. Was so ducking good.

Would almost have been perfect except for the bass was wildly out of tune for Untitled :cry: - Kessler could obviously tell but random bass guy was completely oblivious until he went to check it after the dog and was like oh shit

I saw them in Cardiff Barfly in October 2002, and there couldn’t have been more than 60-70 people there from what I remember. Just asked my now wife whether she came to that gig, and she remembers that she declined as she was washing her hair that night. Her loss as they were impressively good. I can’t find a set list from the night, but I guess it would have been pretty much same as the set they played in Dublin four days later.

I also passed on this gig. Did see them in Cardiff Uni on the NME tour in 2003 where the Datsuns headlined. Christ they were awful.

Two nearest ones are:

The Starting Gate outside Ally Pally train station (but not an “outside train station” pub - at least not any more) which is by far the best one if you’re coming from Wood Green end
The Victoria Stakes at the bottom of the hill (bit posh/gastropobby but en route if you’re coming from Finsbury Park

But if the weather’s good, just get some tins in, get up to the Palace and enjoy the view

I did see the NME one too, but can’t remember a great deal about it in truth. Not the best of venues mind, and that four band format can be a bit hit or miss. Some fond memories of Barfly gigs.

Ah, I really enjoyed that. A shame he wasn’t asked to participate in the reunion, but he’s made no bones about never wanting to go back and wanting to lead a different, more anonymous life, so I guess they were respecting that. Apparently all efforts to get him to participate in that book about the bands at the time were ignored…

Intriguing to hear the anniversary has stirred up some what ifs for him, though…

Really good read - could have been longer.
