Spotify/General music streaming thread

Eventually cracked and tried this but my phone won’t allow me to download it :frowning:

The last straw was this new thing where when I’m listening to offline music, pause it, then when i go back to press play again it tells me ‘song unavailable’. Never, ever happened on the old app, happening all the time now. What kind of idiots are running Spotify

Yes this is happening to me all the time now, my library taking ages to load in or saying it’s unavailable, it’s such a pain in the arse.

The worst app update of any app ever.

Yeah, I do. Haven’t found much difference between it and the Spotify library (gf uses it so our Sonos stuff has access to both) but I’ve never had any problems with the phone app or anything, which seems to be a problem with Spotify for some people.

Yep, find it does the very simple job very well.

I had to add a permission on my Samsung to download it, which I think was a prompted option when I tried it. It’s been worth it.
I’m happily oblivious to the new clusterfuck of Spotify now!

I do hope that IF Spotify do sort it out, someone can let me know so I can unblock all app updates.
The problem with corporates when they spend a lot of money on an update is that they will defend it to the hilt and ignore what they will just see as “negative feedback”.

I think all the streaming services have pretty much the same volume of music even if there are a few oddities in terms of what is missing from each. Tidal & Deezer both excellent.

Really annoying how the artist list isn’t in alphabetical order now and you can only go via the album list for that.

Yeah I managed to get the phone to co-operate in the end! So good to see the old format back. All auto-updating now blocked.

which would you say has the largest library?

Same quantity give or take - you’ll just find they aren’t absolutely 100% the same content so there may be the odd thing you had on Spotify that isn’t on Tidal but something that wasn’t on spotify will be on Tidal.

They all have free trials so just try them out.

Worth signing up for https://soundiiz.com which lets you transfer playlists and libraries between platforms (free).

I’m very, very sceptical that Tidal is as comprehensive as Spotify

Really?

I’ve honestly not found any significant difference between Spotify, Tidal, Apple, Google, Deezer.

Qobuz yes that seemed short.

Free trials anyway so nothing to loose in trying them out if Spotify is annoying you for whatever reason.

I guess it depends on your tastes. Spotify is severly lacking in lesser know black/death metal bands in my experience.

I guess if they don’t have certain labels that specialise in a genre of music you like then that can be pretty much a deal breaker - see that totally.

I’ve used it for a couple of years now it and it does a job, being able to upload (I think) 10,000 of your own songs to stream anywhere is nice as well but the interface is a looking a bit tired now. They don’t seem to be developing it much anymore as I think there’s rumours it’ll switch to Youtube Music soon which I find pretty terrible to use so will see what happens.

The recommendations and playlists are surprisingly shit too considering how much Google must know about me and my listening habits, but just for doing the basics it’s not so bad.

was just reading about pandora and that seemed pretty good so was about to sign up for that

not available in the UK is it. sake.

what’s the best spotify alternative then?

Tidal is the most like spotify in terms of interface (good spotify) interface) and find the app very reliable.
And yes the libraries are basically identical

Obviously they’re evil but if you can live with that Amazon music unlimited might be worth a look - i think you can get the first 4 months for 99p a month and they also do some really cheap plans with certain restrictions.
