is there a rolling general visual art thread?

I don’t know where to ask for recommendations or talk about art or whatever, so I suppose this thread can be whatever you want it to be, within the realm of visual art?

okay, so

I want to know some good pictures that are:

  • monochromatic

  • ink, charcoal, pencil, etchings (or any other medium idk)

  • are somewhere dreamlike between impressionist and expressionist

  • not necessarily eldritch/haunting, but that would be cool

  • maybe like old book illustrations

just like… all light + shade, evocative, maybe sketchy, perhaps skeletal, maybe ornate and incredibly detailed

because I fell down a rabbit hole looking for atmospheric b+w stuff, realising that the good stuff reeeeally does it for me

maybe some specific artists or periods in the careers of artists?

pls tell me the things and post images

When I was a student a really nice tutor thought I’d admire Paula Rego’s etchings based on nursery rhymes and they were right

just googled india ink because Phil Elverum mentions it in Microphones 2020 and it gave me pangs of art classes past

and on the Wiki page, there’s this piece by the Belgian artist Gustaaf Sorel:

and I found this, too

they both strike a well of deep, dark feeling in me, a stark + blank/dark overcast place in my bones

but cursory google searches reveal next to nothing about him
