Was thinking it’s probably lucky that Nick Cohen’s (semi-) downfall happened before all this kicked off because people would absolutely be trying to say that calling him ‘The Octopus’ is an antisemitic trope by now

Feel like this applies particularly to Germany. Should be clear at this point that for all Britain’s extreme issues with structural racism there is at least a much greater understanding than in Germany that colonialism is the source of racism.

It’s incredible to watch them treat racism as this kind of magical property that specifically impacts their internal moral experience as the sons and daughters of Nazis, that they need to kind of trim and keep in check to make sure it doesn’t spill out as an exact repetition of before. Rather than something that exists as a historical material force whose principal impact is upon the objects of racist oppression.
It’s also pretty antisemitic when you think about it. “We have to be super vigilant about antisemitism above all other concerns bc if we don’t we might relapse into an orgy of antisemitic violence. History clearly shows it’s ingrained in our nature”.

apologies if this inappropriate but I had to laugh at myself just there, I did the exact thing the lying Israeli ambassador did at the UN in that clip from the other week.
I’d commented on someone’s work with “WHO would collect the data and HOW?”
and then read it back to myself as “the Double You Aitch Oh would collect the data…”
