Hire a bike and do some of the famous climbs from the Giro Il Lombardia (Muro di Sormano, Madonna de Ghisallo)

Suit yourself then.

I should have clarified: fuck no - I’d probably die.

We went the other way from Turin, down to Piedmont. Visited Alba when the truffle festival was on, went to some vineyards and generally behaved like massive Tories. It’s about an hour in the other direction though so might not be doable in a weekend but it’s massively worth it if you do have time.

They are a nation of horrible drivers though, expect to have people following about a foot from your bumper at all times. As we drove down the slip road to get on to the Autostrada a cyclist was riding up it.

Brief hijack, has anyone been to Turin? There’s a festival I’m tempted by in November but would like to have a decent holiday out of it but if its drrrrrrry then maybe not.

Yes, I was there a few weekends ago. It was fantastic.

Is that Club to Club? Looks decent that, although I’ve heard that the organisation can be a bit haphazard. Didn’t go to Turin itself but went to Piedmont which I droned on about a bit up there.

Assume that’s Club 2 Club. Went a couple of years ago and it was great. The festival is spread around a bunch of smart old industrial buildings and the people are all decent.

I found Turin a pretty cool place to hang around. It’s not remotely touristy but there were plenty of interesting little corners, cafes and bars to keep us occupied. To be fair, we were up quite late most nights.

Cool thank you, does the festival go on all night ala Unsound etc?

Really want to go to Turin. Not that arsed about the big guns like Rome, Florence, Milan, Venice… those lads. But Turin I would like to go to.

Sorry one more question, did you hang around for the Sunday party and was it worth it?

Can’t remember what time it was on until but nothing really starts until 6 or 7 at night at the earliest and the sun was up in November by the time we got home.

We had already booked travel for the Monday so we did head to the Sunday. From reading about last year’s I think this part has got a lot bigger. The time we went there was one act (The Field, maybe) and a long boozy brunch at the Ferrari factory.

However it’s worth noting that we found the people on the whole incredibly friendly and welcoming, so don’t read ‘not remotely touristy’ as ‘not welcoming’.

It certainly wasn’t intended that way. I was only talking about the city itself as a holiday destination if you didn’t have anything else to go for.

Alright team, I’m off to Italy for 6 days on Friday.
1 x night in Bergamo
1 x night in Verona
4 x night in Florence
Recommendations of places to eat/drink would be most welcome!

I didn’t read it that way, I just wanted to make an effort to point out the fact the the people were lovely.

Also, @roastthemonaspit make sure you go to the cinema museum.

I went to Verona a couple of years ago. This place was amazing:

The photos on the website do not do it justice. It’s housed within a deconsecrated church. There’s a glass floor through which you can see the medieval catacombs beneath. Most importantly, though, the pizzas are incredible (especially the calzones).
