It's 2014... finally, you can rip CDs without fearing the LAW

I really hope nobody bought all their albums again on iTunes despite being able to rip their CDs to their iPod. I didn’t even know till today that creating digital backups for personal use was illegal back then.

It felt like it was actively encouraged by iTunes and Windows Media Player just by virtue of it being a feature.

The mid 00s - mid 10s were a weird fucking time for music consumption imo. Legal downloads declined far faster than CD which is at least still a flexible format and somewhat cool again.

What is this thread? No idea.

I remember getting my first iPod and ripping 20 CDs to put on there. After loading them to the iPod I then deleted all of the MP3s from my computer as I obviously no longer needed them. I also didn’t realise the Gracenote feature existed so I just had all the tracks labelled Track 01, Track 02, Track 03 etc.
